| Old Pueblo Lions RFC is celebrating over 31 years of being an active rugby club in Tucson, Arizona. Created in 1975, by a group of former University of Arizona ruggers, Old Pueblo has never looked back. Our current home field Estavan Park in Tucson and it has helped Old Pueblo and the Tucson rugby community flourish over the past 20 years and we are proud to call it home. Old Pueblo also has a rich tradition of traveling to friendly’s, tournaments and on International tours. We have played on pitches from El Paso to Pasadena, Ireland to New Zealand and are always looking for a new destination. As well as hosted players from France, Wales, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, Scotland, Australia and England. In the mid nineties, the face Old Pueblo changed to include a new group of ruggers. The US Military, specifically the Air Force was being deployed over sea’s and the rugby club at DM was struggling for numbers, so the two clubs came together to make Old Pueblo a stronger club side. Over the years Old Pueblo has been the club for a number of military personnel passing thru Tucson. It has been a great source of pride that we can be a temporary home for the military personnel looking to find a rugby team. This has been a successful program all due to one gentleman, Ret. Col. Richard “Dick” Battock. Dick a genuine rugby enthusiast and past President/SFG of Old Pueblo. Unfortunately, the club lost Dick to brain cancer, but his spirit lives on in the club. After several successful season’s as a Division III club, Old Pueblo has been competing at the Division II level and this will be the third time in competing in the national playoff’s. Old Pueblo has also helped in the development of youth rugby in Tucson, by helping support the Tucson Barbarians under 19 team. Old Pueblo Lions RFC is truely a Rugby Community and if you would like to be apart of it please give me a call. Clint 520.955.0973 |
